MONTEMOR-O-NOVO CASTLE<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

It rises above the highest point in the region<\/strong>initially served as town centre<\/strong> which, over time, expanded beyond its walls.<\/span><\/p>

It was captured<\/strong> by the forces of D. Sancho I<\/strong> in 1203<\/strong>receiving his first charter<\/strong> that same year. A construction<\/strong> of medieval castle<\/strong> is attributed to this period.<\/span><\/p>

Large improvements<\/strong> occurred during the reign of D. Dinis<\/strong> in 14th century<\/strong>with the completion of the village fence in 1365<\/strong>. In 15th and 16th centuries<\/strong>and especially during the reign of D. Manuel I<\/strong>The process of structural works<\/strong>where the Guard House<\/strong> and bell tower<\/strong> in the Clock Tower<\/strong>. At the end of 18th century<\/strong>life in the castle is over scarce<\/strong>The new town<\/strong> down the slope.<\/span><\/p>

After a few years of abandonment<\/strong>has been through several restoration phases<\/strong> during the 20th century<\/strong>. It is classified as National Monument<\/strong> since 1951<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t
