PR09 - Montados de Cabrela

Dehesa landscapes, historic hills and the Ribeira de Safira form a mosaic of beauty and ecological importance, with the strawberry tree standing out. The town of Cabrela is the gateway to this natural treasure of the Alentejo.

Information

Start the walk at Lg. Dr João Pascoal Coelho and turn left onto Rua Joaquim Pedro de Matos. After about 1 kilometre, take Rua dos Moinhos, followed by a rural path flanked by pastures and Alentejo hills. Cross a small water line and enter the cork oak and holm oak forest. At the first junction, turn right and go down to the Ribeira de Safira. Cross the stream, climb a steep path and return to the plateau. Before the next hill, turn right, pass under the power line and cross the water line. Continue towards the hill, round it to the right and follow a gentle downhill track until you cross the stream again. Start climbing along a narrow path between cork oaks and pine trees until you reach the village. Go down Rua do Outeiro de Cima to return to the town centre.
