PR01 - Montado Ecotrail

This was a railway route that was surrounded by nature: agricultural products and people came; other people went in search of new lives. Nowadays, it's possible to make the journey in a healthy way, admiring the landscapes of the Montemor countryside.

Information

The entire route follows the inactive railway track. In the yard next to Torre da Gadanha station, turn left, parallel to the active railway line. After passing a small grove of trees, continue through open fields, sometimes surrounded by open slopes in the rock and sometimes in areas of embankment to ease the unevenness of the terrain. At 5.8 kilometres you'll find the Paião stop and 500 metres ahead
the remains of an old level crossing. From 9.3 kilometres onwards, the landscape changes: rural properties, farmhouses and holiday cottages beckon you as you approach the town. After a long curve and counter-curve, you reach the crossing over the River Almansor along the metal bridge and arrive at the town's disused railway station. It can be travelled in the opposite direction, from Montemor-o-Novo to Torre da Gadanha.
