The construction of the Convent of São Domingos dates back to the 16th century. It was an important religious building, of which an important collection of mural paintings and tiles remains, mainly in the old Conventual Church. Over the centuries it fell into disrepair and was eventually restored by the Montemor-o-Novo Friends Group. Here they set up their headquarters and a valuable museum centre.
